To unpack Split Tooth’s labyrinthine structure in a single review is a challenge. Formally identified as fiction, it is in fact a thick braid of lived experience, philosophy, poetry, and traditional knowledge. It’s no surprise, then, that Split Tooth, Tagaq’s literary debut, defies categorization. An Inuk artist from Iqaluktuutiaq, Tagaq’s performances are innovative and face-meltingly intense, and she has collaborated with a wide array of music’s weird geniuses from Björk to the Kronos Quartet. As a vocalist and composer, Tanya Tagaq cares little for conventional rules of engagement. ![]()

![]() ![]() She fails to describe any of the harsh realities of moving and living in the West, making Elizabeth's choice to fake her death and move out West on her own seem easy. The character seems content to spend her days in California opening jam jars and learning to cook. ![]() Godbersen writes Elizabeth as a saint, with no selfish desires or struggles within her. ![]() I would normally empathise with such a decision, but it was hard to care for the character's anguish when neither had much of a personality. Everyone seems to have their own agenda and secrets, yet one of the massive flaws with these books is that it is hard to sympathise with these schemes.Įlizabeth and Will seem only to want a quiet life in the West, but the former remains worried about her family and insists on visiting her ill mother. Each character has travelled a little further since the first book, and their decisions intertwine as the book progresses. Characters - scheming Penelope, passionate Diana, desperate Lina, brooding Henry, honest Will and ex-socialite Elizabeth - are all somehow caught up in this judgemental and glamorous world.Ĭarrying on from The Luxe, Rumours continues its glossy narrative and dramatic storylines. Michael Todd, Author of Relationship Goals and Pastor of Transformation Church, describes a soul tie as when your “mind, will, and emotions are entangled with someone else.” When most people refer to soul ties, they are talking about the bond that is formed between two people when they have sex or sexual soul ties. Simply put, a soul tie is a bond that is formed to attach two people together for life. He is very different from many of the main characters in other books we’ve read here at Vamos a Leer. Marcelo has become one of my favorite protagonists. Reminiscent of “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” in the intensity and purity of its voice, this extraordinary novel is a love story, a legal drama, and a celebration of the music each of us hears inside. But it’s a picture he finds in a file - a picture of a girl with half a face - that truly connects him with the real world: its suffering, its injustice, and what he can do to fight. He learns about competition and jealousy, anger and desire. But the summer after his junior year, his father demands that Marcelo work in his law firm’s mailroom in order to experience “the real world.” There Marcelo meets Jasmine, his beautiful and surprising coworker, and Wendell, the son of another partner in the firm. Marcelo Sandoval hears music no one else can hear–part of the autism-like impairment no doctor has been able to identify–and he’s always attended a special school where his differences have been protected. ![]() ![]() ![]() With her wedding day drawing near, Aurora must make the ultimate decision on how to save her kingdom: marry the prince or run.
